Departments
Drawing on
the talents and resources of the faculty and staff of its departments,
the College of Natural Sciences strives to provide the best
possible educational experience for students at both undergraduate
and graduate levels. Courses and programs are student-centered
and are designed to promote learning and achievement. Faculty
research and scholarship are integrated into the educational
experience for students working in laboratories, on theoretical
and computational problems, and in the field.

BIOLOGY
The
Department of Biological Sciences offers the BA, BS, and MS
in Biological Sciences. The Department of Biology offers a
dynamic and modern program in biology that prepares students
both academically and practically for vocations in science
and science-related fields, or for entry into graduate studies.

CHEMISTRY
& BIOCHEMISTRY
The
Department of Chemistry serves students who have a variety
of interests. You can select from two degree programs areas,
Chemistry or Biochemistry. In either program you will use
computers and sophisticated equipment and instrumentation
early in your studies. The curriculum integrates the practical
and theoretical aspects of chemistry in a way that provides
you with a comprehensive knowledge base and a special confidence
in using modern scientific equipment. Students who complete
the BA or BS program may continue on for further training
in a MS or Ph.D. program or seek employment as a biochemist,
forensic chemist, analytical chemist, inorganic chemist, organic
chemist or technical sales representative.

COMPUTER
SCIENCE
The
Computer Science Department educates students in the discipline
of computer science and teaches them to apply their education
to solve practical problems in a socially responsible way.
Preparing workers for Inland Empire industries, the Department
of Computer Science the development of software using current
technology. Many disciplines involve computer technology,
but what distinguishes this department is its focus on the
tools and techniques used to build application software. Students
may study for the BS or MS in Computer Science.

GEOLOGY
A
BA or BS graduate in geology could be employed as one of the
following professions: hydrologist, geophysicist, geochemist,
environmental scientist, oceanographer, geological surveyor,
paleontologist, energy and resource explorer, or city planner.

HEALTH
SCIENCE AND HUMAN ECOLOGY
The
Department provides courses of instruction for personal growth,
community service, intellectual stimulation and professional
career opportunities in the public health and environmental
fields. The Department offers a BS in Health Science, a B
S in Nutrition and Food Sciences, and a MS in Health Services
Administration.

KINESIOLOGY
The
Department strives to help its students and graduates serve
as role models and impart values that are consistent with
a democratic society. A CSUSB BS or MA degree in Kinesiology
can prepare you for a career in public school teaching or
health promotion. It can also prepare you for entrance into
graduate and professional schools to study for health-related
careers such as physical therapy, exercise science, sport
pedagogy, or a variety of other human movement related fields.

MATHEMATICS
The
Department of Mathematics offers a variety of degrees and
emphases designed to provide several blends of mathematics
and specialties to the student. The BA, BS, and MA programs
prepare students to solve problems. The MAT degree emphasizes
a broad mathematical curriculum that makes this graduate degree
ideal for students planning a teaching career at the community
college or secondary school level.

NURSING
The
Department of Nursing provides exemplary nursing education
responsive to the health needs of diverse populations.
PHYSICS
The
Department of Physics has a focus on undergraduate instruction
and research with unusual opportunities for students to work
closely with faculty and to become involved with scientific
instruments and equipment. While seeking a BS or a BA degree
in physics our students may choose to emphasize astronomy,
applied physics, science education or a program of advanced
preparation for graduate study in physics or related fields.
