Budget
Reduction
The budget reductions for the College of Natural
Science have been occurring over multiple years. In 2002-03,
one-time funding equal to $318,102 was set aside by the College
and $70,412 baseline money was taken centrally from the College
of Natural Sciences. In 2003-04, the College set aside approximately
$318,000 (2.25%) of its baseline funding which included all
of the College's equipment money, 16% of the departments and
College's O&E budgets, and $39,221 in faculty money from
the College's reserve. Of that amount, $134,494 (1.3%) was
returned to the Central Administration by the College.
For 2004-05, the projected budget reduction
for the College is 5.5% of the College baseline funding. The
set-aside funding from 2003-04 will be used inititially, so
that the average baseline budget reduction to the College
is 4.37%. Some departments have been growing in enrollments
over the last few years, while other departments have less
student demand. Therefore, rather than applying the budget
reduction across-the-board, it was decided that the reduction
should be modified according to programmatic need, the primary
factor being FTES enrollment and targets. Listed below are
the baseline budget reductions that have been assigned to
each of the departments and the College.

These figures are preliminary and may be adjusted when the
University's budget is actually known. If anyone should have
suggestions as to how we might more appropriately handle the
