Center for Enhancement of Mathematics Education
Director: Davida Fischman, Co-Director: Shawnee McMurran
Website: Center for Enhancement of Mathematics Education
The Center for Enhancement of Mathematics Education addresses the continuum of mathematics education from kindergarten through college. Their focus is primarily on enhancing content and pedagogy of pre-service and in-service teachers, with the ultimate goal of improving readiness for college level mathematics among students in the Inland Empire. The following activities will support these goals:
- Create and sustain partnerships with schools, districts, and local counties
- Provide ongoing coherent teacher professional development programs, as well as self-contained workshops and institutes.
- Build leadership capacity in local schools and districts.
- Assist teachers in earning their California teaching credential.
- Provide supportive resources for local teachers to enrich instruction and to fill in knowledge gaps. Begin this process while students are undergraduates.
- Provide incentives and mentoring for pre-service teachers to work in low-performing schools
- Develop and offer seminars on teaching strategies for TA’s, part-time faculty and full time faculty at CSUSB and other interested institutions.
- Raise funds to carry out the activities described above.

The Water Resources Institute of Cal State San Bernardino is a place to convene, to study, to meet challenges and to solve problems related to that most critical of water issues, water resources.
More than ever before, in the San Bernardino Valley, the Santa Ana Watershed and indeed in all of Southern California and the Southwest, water resource management, conservation and wise use will determine our capacity for quality growth and economic development. The WRI offers the ideal environment for ongoing progress in meeting water resources challenges.
The WRI is active in water resources arenas of science, public policy and history. The institute was founded, in part, to be a repository for water resources-related and we have an extensive collection of books, historical, research, legal papers; technical database and other water resources related materials. A highlight of our entire collection is a series of papers of political leaders and others who have had a major impact on water resources policy.
The WRI was recommended by the Faculty Senate to be established in 1999 in recognition that water is one of the most precious resources in the region. With the mission of making water an area of distinction at CSUSB, the WRI set out to build partnerships to support the Inland Empire communities it serves.
Since that time, the WRI has made significant progress in establishing itself as a regionally prominent institution. It serves as a regional hub for academics, students, political leaders, public policy makers, water professionals, businesses and environmental groups to get the latest water resource information and come together to exchange views.
